Yoga

Yoga is a group of ancient physical and spiritual practices that began in India. Yoga can calm the mind, ease tension in the body, and improve balance and strength. Yoga classes include the practice of physical postures, breathing exercises, and quiet meditation. A number of positive scientific studies have been published showing yoga’s benefits for low back pain, arthritis of the hands, carpal tunnel syndrome, and depression. Robin takes a special interest in the scientific research on yoga, and applies results directly to her classes when applicable.

Robin has a love of movement and incorporates a flow between postures in her classes. Attention is paid to alignment, spinal safety and stability, and injury prevention.

Yoga Therapy

Yoga Therapy is a one on one session designed to use yoga as a therapeutic tool for overcoming injury and pain. Issues such as low back pain, neck pain, shoulder injuries, hip, pelvic, knee pain and others can benefit from focused rehabilitative yoga. Yoga Therapy is an excellent modality to achieve more balance in the body, or to get indivdualized attention in your yoga practice to determine the possible causes of a recurrent injury. The sessions will include a mixture of traditional yogic exercises, and modern rehabilitative techniques applied to yoga.

Yoga Styles

Power/Vinyasa Yoga

Power yoga is an invigorating style of yoga focusing on flowing movement between poses. Power yoga uses breath to link the postures together, improving strength, endurance, flexibility, and relieving tension. Robin’s classes emphasize postures that open commonly tight areas, and strengthen commonly weak areas to stabilize the spine and joints of the body.

Hatha Yoga

Hatha yoga provides a feeling of calm and well-being. Postures increase flexibility, relieve tension, calm the mind, and improve strength and balance. Classes include breathing exercises and meditation that will leave students refreshed and renewed. Robin’s classes emphasize alignment and safety, and involve a continuous flow of breath.

Ashtanga Yoga

Ashtanga is a yoga practice developed by Pattabhi Jois of Mysore, India, similar to Power yoga. It is a dynamic and vigorous form of yoga that builds heat in the body. This set series of postures maximizes strength, concentration and flexibility with focused breath awareness. Robin has studied extensively in Ashtanga yoga both in North America and India.
